How licensing works
The Hellenic Gaming Commission licenses online gambling in two types: Type A for sports betting, Type B for casino games and poker. Licences run seven years and carry a licence fee in the millions, which has kept the number of licensees low and skewed towards operators with a full casino product.
The commission publishes both the list of licensees and a blacklist. Playing on a blacklisted site is not an offence for the player, but there is no Greek regulator to appeal to when something goes wrong.
What that leaves for poker players
Licensed Greek sites are built around betting and casino games, and poker sits inside them as a side product. The choice of rooms is narrow, and the traffic you find depends entirely on the international pool behind the licensed brand. The deepest games run on sites with no Greek licence, and playing there means giving up the protection the licence carries.
