The room

Star Poker is at the southern end of the main casino floor on Level 2 of The Star. Cash games run from 10:00 to 04:00 every day, starting at midday on public holidays with more tables opened at 16:00. Every game is capped at eight-handed, which is unusual and makes the games play larger than the blinds suggest.

Five cash levels are spread, from $2/3 with a $200 to $500 buy-in through to $25/50 with a buy-in from $2,500 to $10,000, all with an optional straddle. No-limit hold’em is the default and pot-limit Omaha runs at the same levels when there is demand. Rake is 10 per cent capped at $20 to $25 depending on the stake.

Getting a seat

The registration desk opens at 10:00. You can put your name on the waitlist by SMS from 09:00, but the room will only hold a seat if you are physically in the room, so the text is a queue position rather than a booking.
