Gambling is licensed and supervised by the National Revenue Agency, which took over the sector when the separate State Commission on Gambling was abolished in 2020. Casinos are typically attached to hotels or shopping complexes in Sofia, Varna and the Black Sea resorts.
The minimum age is 18 and a passport or ID card is checked at the entrance, with registration on the first visit. Bulgaria joined the euro area on 1 January 2026, so stakes and buy-ins that used to be quoted in leva are now in euros. Sofia is an inexpensive destination by European standards, and that is much of the draw for its festivals.
