Casinos are authorised by the Ministry of the Interior and the sector is regulated by the Autorité nationale des jeux (ANJ). French law only allows casinos in spa towns, seaside resorts and designated tourist communes, and bans them within 100 km of Paris apart from the spa town of Enghien-les-Bains. That is why poker in the capital is played in clubs de jeux instead: licensed gaming clubs, first authorised as an experiment in 2017 and since made permanent, that may spread poker and a short list of other games but no slot machines. They are not casinos, and this directory labels them accordingly.

The minimum age is 18 in both club and casino. An ID card or passport is checked at the door, and the national exclusion register, the fichier des interdits de jeu, is queried before you are admitted. Games are in euros. Casinos charge for entry to the table-games rooms; the Paris clubs do not.
