Playing live poker in Paris
There is no casino in Paris and there cannot be one: French law keeps casinos out of a 100 km radius around the capital, with a single exception for the spa town of Enghien-les-Bains. What Paris has instead are clubs de jeux, licensed gaming clubs authorised by the Ministry of the Interior. They may deal poker and a small list of other games, but no slot machines, and they are not casinos.
The two that matter for poker are both a few minutes from the Champs-Élysées and both open late into the morning. Entry is free, you must be 18, and you will be asked for a club card or an ID document, a passport if you are not French. Games are in euros and the cash-game action, rather than the tournament programme, is the reason most visitors come.
Enghien-les-Bains
For a full casino floor, Casino Barrière d’Enghien-les-Bains is fifteen kilometres north of the city and about twenty minutes by train from Gare du Nord.
