The room
SkyCity’s poker room is a small permanent operation – six tables – inside the casino under the Sky Tower, and it scales up to around 25 tables when the WPT NZ Poker Arena takes over a larger space. Texas hold’em and pot-limit Omaha run daily at $2/3, $5/5 and $5/10, with optional live straddles and buy-ins from $100 at the smallest game up to $3,000 at $5/10. Rake is 10 per cent with a cap, and hold’em cash games carry a progressive jackpot for a royal flush.
Hours are the main thing to plan around: the room is open from 18:00 to 02:00 Monday to Friday and from midday to 04:00 at weekends, and it closes entirely on Christmas Day and Good Friday, with restricted hours on ANZAC Day. That closure pattern is a legal requirement for New Zealand casinos, not a house policy.
Entry requirements
Minimum age is 20 for the casino. A SHOW by SkyCity card is mandatory to take a seat in the poker room; it is free and issued at the desk with a photo ID. Play is in New Zealand dollars.
Getting there
The casino is on the corner of Victoria and Federal streets in central Auckland, a few minutes’ walk from Queen Street and from the Aotea Station on the City Rail Link, with hotels and parking in the same complex.
