How licensing works

The KSA licensed the first remote operators in October 2021. Licences run five years, so that first batch comes up for renewal in 2026 under stricter policy rules. Untargeted advertising has been banned since July 2023, leaving only targeted channels, and the KSA fines affiliates directly for breaches.

The market

GGPoker.nl was licensed from day one and puts Dutch players into its global pool. Holland Casino Online, the state operator’s site, is ring-fenced to the Netherlands and shares its brand with the live poker room in Amsterdam.

Frequently asked questions

Is online poker legal in the Netherlands?

Yes, since the Remote Gambling Act (KOA) took effect on 1 October 2021. Only KSA-licensed operators may accept Dutch players.

Is PokerStars licensed in the Netherlands?

No. PokerStars has not obtained a KSA licence. GGPoker, Holland Casino Online, Unibet and bet365 are the licensed poker options.

What is CRUKS?

The national self-exclusion register. Every licensed site checks it at login, and exclusion covers land-based Holland Casino venues too.
