How licensing works

Spain regulates online gambling nationally through the DGOJ under Law 13/2011. A licensed operator has to run on a .es domain, verify identity against the national ID database and check the RGIAJ self-exclusion register. Around eighty licences are active, though only a handful of operators bother with poker.

Shared liquidity

Spain, France and Portugal opened a shared poker pool in 2018. It is now the largest regulated pool in Europe outside the UK, with PokerStars and Winamax the two busiest rooms in it. Italy declined to join, so Italian players stay ring-fenced.

Advertising rules

Royal Decree 958/2020 restricted bonuses and advertising. The Supreme Court annulled several of its articles in April 2024, and a 2026 draft law now under consultation would restore them and add a register of affiliates. Either way, Spanish sites carry fewer welcome offers than the rest of Europe, which makes rake and rewards the more useful things to compare.
